AUTUN, Gallo-Roman remains, Cathedral

Gallo-roman remains : Autun was built at the end of the first century by order of Emperor Augustus.
Monuments to be seen : wall, gates (Portes d’Arroux, Porte St André), theatre (the largest in Gaul at the time), Temple de Janus.
Cathedral : Romanesque church. The tympanum and the capitals are the works of the famous sculptor Gislebertus (12th century).

 

Rolin Museum - Autun

Houses rich collections of works of art from prehistory to the 20th century including “The Nativity” by the Master of Moulins.
